INSTRUCTIONS

1. Following the instructions on the cake mix box, make and bake the cake. Coloring the batter is optional. Allow the cake to cool before mixing with the frosting in the next step.

2. Mix the butter and powdered sugar to make the frosting. Mix in the cake until you can form 1 inch to 1.5 inch balls.

3. Dip lollipop sticks (we used skewers) into chocolate then poke it into the cake ball so that it goes past the middle of the ball, but not poking through the other side. Freeze the cake pops for 1 hour minimum.

4. Melt the chocolate and dip the frozen cake pop until fully immersed. Quickly remove and spin/shake off excess then place directly into the black sprinkles. Ensure the whole cake pop is covered with the black sprinkles.

5. Allow the chocolate on the cake pop to freeze over then draw eyes and add the arms (licorice cut to size) and attached to the cake pop with chocolate.

6. Attach the stars onto the cake pop using the melted chocolate as glue.

NOTES:

  • Melted chocolate "glue": Dip stick into smooth, melted chocolate before inserting into the cake ball to keep the stick secure to the cake pop while dipping.

  • Reheat chocolate: If chocolate thickens, gently reheat using a double boiler with a splash of neutral oil (last option) for a smooth texture. Do not add water to melted chocolate—it will actually mess up the chocolate and turn it into clumps.

  • Freeze cake pops: Freeze for at least 1 hour before dipping to prevent the cake ball from falling apart in the melted chocolate.

  • Add sprinkles quickly: Roll in black sprinkles right after dipping to create the classic Soot Sprite spiky look.

  • Eye icing: Check out our sugar cookie icing recipe for the perfect eye details here!

And that’s it! With these quick tricks, your Halloween cake pops will come out adorably spooky and stay on the stick—no slipping, no crumbling, just pure cuteness. 🖤 Perfect for impressing your friends or just treating yourself to a festive dessert.
