Korean Fried Chicken in Vancouver, BC
We went to Kosoo Korean Chicken & BBQ on Robson St in Vancouver after a busy touristy day in Vancouver—it felt like we hiked everywhere that day. We decided to grab something to eat close to where our Airbnb which was in downtown because although we had a car we did not want to drive. Luckily, we stayed only a block away from Robson St—a popular shopping street/district.
The restaurant was on the 2nd floor, so as you entered you were immediately greeted by a sign to go upstairs and a staircase. The only promising thing was the smell of food and the faint sound of a bustling restaurant. Once we got to the top of the stairs we were greeted immediately by a very welcoming staff member who asked us for our party size and said that we’d have to wait a few minutes. True to her word, we were seated only a few moments later.
We got a tiny table right between two other tables. The dining area was small, I could hear everything our neighbors talked about—the two to my side were talking about other highly-reviewed restaurants which I took mental notes on to add to my list of places to visit in Vancouver. Later I did some research and indeed said restaurant had really good reviews (I’m sorry, I forgot which one it was called).
After we ordered, our ban chan came out very fast along with the piping hot rice. While we nibbled at the ban chan and rice, the chicken arrived. It was a while chicken (sans head/gibblets/feet), breaded and fried, then heavily dusted with cheese powder, which was new to me. I did not complain. It was tasty, semi-sweet cheese. The chicken was well-cooked, juicy in the middle, and crispy on the outside.
At one point in the delicious dinner, my chopsticks fell to the floor. Before I could even scoot out of my seat to pick up the chopsticks, one of the waitstaff had already swooped in and grabbed it. She immediately discarded it and gave me a fresh pair. It was a blink and you’ll miss it type of event. I was thoroughly impressed.
The food was tasty and the service was great. I don’t even remember how much we paid for for this meal, but I had a great time and would recommend it to others.
